Congratulations to one of our great dental assistants, Mari, and her husband for the birth of their little girl Celine Brianne on Wednesday, May 16th.  Celine Brianne was born a beautiful healthy little girl at 7 pounds and 19 inches long.

The American Dental Association has issued a statement in regards to this study and has been backed up by the authors of the study. To summarize, it states that the x-rays used in the study were the old analog type of dental x-rays; these types of x-rays do produce quite a bit more radiation than the new digital x-rays.  In fact, you are exposed to more radiation walking 100 yards in the sun than you are from 20 digital dental x-rays. Only digital x-rays are used in our office, and we use all appropriate barriers and safety measures to protect against even the small amount of radiation produced. The research shows that it is extremely beneficial to have a set of x-rays taken once a year in order to catch and treat problems with the teeth and bone before they become a larger problem. If you wait until a tooth becomes symptomatic to have radiographs taken, the problem has most likely become very large resulting in more extensive treatment.
 
The study by the ACS was an observational study only, no cause and effect relationship has been documented between the old analog dental x-rays and benign brain tumors.  Again, this study was preformed using the old analog x-rays and not the new digital x-rays which produce next to no radiation.
